I'm posting this from the Loveland Public Library, and so I only have 13 minutes left to do it. Ok, lets go!
I've been busy since leaving Craig almost 5 weeks ago. I'm driving a Honda Civic equipped with hand controls - its a good car, low maintenance, good gas mileage, and it should last me for a very very long time. It was paid for by generous contribution from my mom, and my grandparents, and you all - so thank you very much, it has been wonderful to be able to get out and do stuff, like come to the library to write this...
I spoke at the Loveland High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes a week ago, and addressed how we can still believe God is loving in spite of pain in the world. A lot of what I looked at is in Romans 8:17 and following and the second half of Phillipians 3. Shortly, pain, tragedy, is unacceptable, horrible, terrible - and God allows it, but only because through it a greater freedom, a greater joy, a greater expression of love could be given in Jesus Christ. It also helps to know that Our God can commiserate with us - that is, in Christ's death on the cross, he descended into hell, or separation from God the Father, true and ultimate suffering - and vitally important for us, through this suffering and raising to eternal life and kingship, Christ has paved the way so that none of us who confess him might have to suffer the ultimate suffering that he did - that is hell or separation from God.
Ah yes, and next Tuesday, the 26th, I am having surgery on my right ear. Apparently when I hit my head back in November, it may have jarred the little bones in my ear out of place, so they're going to try to put them back in place. I currently have moderate hearing loss, so it would be wonderful if this was corrective, however it comes with the price tag of a 6 week recovery time, during which I will have to be significantly less active. On the plus side, this means I will have little to do but the schoolwork that I need to finish from last fall. Ok, thirteen minutes are up. God bless,
Daryl
